





Singapore and Malaysia will contest the final of the Women’s Team event at the Commonwealth Championships in Glasgow, following the conclusion of the second stage matches on Thursday 21st May 2009.
Malaysia concluded their series of matches with victory over England whilst Singapore defeated India to book their place in the gold medal contest; for Singapore they will be seeking to retain their title, whilst for Malaysia they will be looking to clnch the crown for the first time in the history of the competition.
India and Australia secured second place in the respective groups and thus gain the bronze medal; whilst Canada will play England to determine fifth and sixth place with New Zealand confronting Wales to decide seventh and eight spot.
India Beaten
Represented by Sun Bei Bei, Wang Yue Gu and Yu Meng Yu, Singapore defeated the trio of Shamini Kumaresan, Madhurikha Patkar and Neha Aggarwal by three matches to nil whilst in a closer contest than the score line might suggest, Malaysia overcame England by three matches to one.
No Presents
It was a contest in which only one match did not go the full five games distance; the third match of the duel between Chiu Soo Jin and Hannah Hicks, the contest won by the Malaysian in four games.
Otherwise it was full distance duels with Kelly Sibley, on her 21st birthday, the player to suffer.
She lost in five games to both Ng Sock Khim and Beh Lee Wei; the win for England coming in the opening exchange with Joanna Parker defeating Beh Lee Wei.
Places Decided
In the remaining second stage matches for the higher places, Canada beat Wales by three matches to nil to secure third place behind Singapore and Australia defeated New Zealand by three matches to one to secure second spot and doom New Zealand to fourth place.
Northern Ireland Leads
Meanwhile in the group contest to determine places nine to thirteen, with one match to go, Northern Ireland lead the table with South Africa in second place followed by Scotland and Cyprus in joint third place and Guernsey fifth.
