Virtual table tennis game online

Date: 24th March 2009

T-Enterprise, a Scottish software development firm, is encouraging people to try table tennis in the run up to the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships this May with a fun free online game.

It’s a simple flash based game that anyone can play free online at Virtual Table Tennis

The organisers, Culture and Sport Glasgow, hope the game will encourage people to go along and watch the world’s best players compete in the 2009 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, which take place at Scotstoun Sports Campus from 19th to 25th May.

Young people can also participate in a number of free trial sessions being organised as part of the Championships. Table Tennis is a sport that is easily accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and it is widely known that participating in any sport can make a real and positive difference to peoples’ lives.

Entry to the Championships is free on qualifying days and from £2 per child, £3 per concession and £5 per adult on Finals days.

T-Enterprise’s MD Sadia Chishti said: “Here at T-Enterprise we like to get involved with the local community, help charities and promote Scottish sports. We saw this as a chance to not only help promote sport in Glasgow but to get our hands on a piece of signed memorabilia – a Table Tennis bat to display in our offices.”

The game is like a table tennis match with a twist. Instead of playing against another player you have to hit targets for across the Commonwealth on the other side of the table. The more targets you hit the higher your score which is posted in the high score board for all to see. Prizes, including free tickets to the Championship Finals, will be awarded to the player with the best game time.

Bailie Liz Cameron, Chair of Culture and Sport Glasgow, added: “As an increasing number of children and young adults spend their free time on game consoles and computers, there is simply no better way to deliver this important keep fit message.

“We’re always trying to reach out to young people and encourage them to get more active, especially those who may not have considered trying table tennis before.”
